Note about Pagination of Journals

Each volume of Macquarie’s journals in Reels 1 and 2 was paged by Macquarie on the left hand side of the page, beginning afresh in each volume.

The journals were paged again by the Mitchell Library, on the right hand side of the page:

Reel 1

15 December 1787 - 24 March 1792 contains pages 1-368
26 March 1792 - 28 December 1794 contains pages 369-742
29 December 1794 - 27 September 1799 contains pages 1-396
28 September 1799 - 11 September 1801 contains pages 397-724

Reel 2

12 September 1801 - 14 July 1804 contains pages 1-362
15 July 1804 - 16 March 1807 contains pages 363-735

Errors in the Mitchell Library pagination.

Reel 1

29 December 1794 - 27 September 1799 page 231 is incorrectly numbered 331.
28 September 1799 - 11 September 1801 page 511 is incorrectly numbered 573.

The pages thereafter in these sequences are incorrectly numbered. Because of the large number of index entries made for these volumes in the manuscript catalogue the paging was left unaltered.

Reel 2

15 July 1804 - 16 March 1807 page 383 is incorrectly numbered 389 and page numbers 474-475 are repeated.

18 March 1807 - 17 October 1807 pages 212 & 213 were repeated. Because of the large number of index entries made for these volumes in the manuscript catalogue the paging was left unaltered.
