CHURCH MISSIONARY SOCIETY ARCHIVE
Section I: East Asia Missions
Part 3: Japan, 1869-1949
Part 3 completes our coverage of the Japan Mission with papers for 1916-1949.
- There is good correspondence relating to activities in Tokyo, Fukuoka, Hakodate, Hiroshima, Kokura, Kure, Matsuye, Nagasaki, Nogota and Yonago.
- There are important diocesan papers and material on the Nippon Sei Ko Kai and the movement towards a self-supporting church.
- A good file on Newspaper Evangelism in Japan covers the work of Rev Murray Walton and Rev M S Murao. This proved quite effective until radio diminished the role of newspapers after 1945.
- There are also papers on the East Asia Committee, 1938-1949, on missionaries’ allowances, 1932-1944, and on the Bishop Poole Memorial High School, 1935-1949, the Momoyama Boys’ School, 1934-1940, and the Central Theological College in Tokyo, 1936-1949.
