CHURCH MISSIONARY SOCIETY ARCHIVE
Section III: Central Records
Part 22: Pamphlets
This collection of pamphlets from the CMS Library in Oxford provides a wide ranging collection of material for the study of missionary activity in the 19th Century.
Subjects such as slavery, commerce, Hinduism, Islam and primal religions are well covered. As well as CMS publications including items by Samuel Adjai Crowther, the first African to be ordained by the Anglican Church, there are official reports and sermons.
The work of other missionary societies is also covered with items on or by the Baptist Missionary Society and material by the London Missionary Society missionary, James Legge. Geographically most areas of the world are represented but the collection is particularly rich in material relating to Africa and India.
