HEMANS: The Literary Manuscripts of Felicia Hemans (1793-1835)

"The first poetess of the day."  The Literary Chronicle, 1826.

Working together with Consultant Editor, Paula Feldman, Professor of English Language and Literature at the University of South Carolina, this project seeks to bring together the scattered manuscripts of one of the most celebrated poets of the late Romantic and Victorian eras.

This will be an important resource for all those concerned with:

  • Romantic women writers;
  • writing for periodicals and gift-books;
  • Patriotic poetry, historical writing and Victorian taste;
  • The hardships faced by women in early 19th century Britain.
